The City of Newport Beach is looking for volunteers to aid in the accomplishment of our mission of building better citizens through outreach, education, and service. Many opportunities are available; Education Volunteers will work directly with the ISOpod and its educational programs.

Position: Education Volunteer

Purpose: Conduct off-site educational programs

Duties:

  • Assist staff in preparing ISOpod and animals for travel
  • Perform portion of programming alongside staff
  • Work directly with students and teachers

Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate ideas according to set lesson plan
  • Experience with children
  • Reliable transport to Back Bay Science Center or school site

Timeframe:

  • Shifts of 2-4 hours between 9 am and 5 pm, during school year
  • Requires regular availability on set days
  • Variable monthly schedule sent out two weeks prior
  • Shifts dependent on field trip reservations

Site: Back Bay Science Center and schools off-site

Supervision: Report directly to staff present; generally to Natural Resources Coordinator and Supervisor

Other positions include Tidepool Volunteers and there is selective availability for Monitoring Volunteers, Aquarium Volunteers, and Administrative Volunteers. Internships are also available for high school and college aged students interested in education, environmental interpretation, marine research, and public service.
