The City of Newport Beach Natural Resources Department offers a variety of programs through field trips, school programs, and special event and outreach programs.  Our department also offers a variety of volunteer opportunities as well as internship and Citizen Science programs.  Our department is all about conservation and preservation of our existing natural and ecological resources and enhancing and rehabilitating marine and inland ecosystems.  This site gives provides insight into our many programs and opportunies.  If you love the earth and, specifically, Newport Beach book a field trip, ISOPod lesson, or become a volunteer!  We look forward to hearing from you.


ISOPod: Interactive Sealife Outreach, get a hands-in experience!

We offer 4 different activities/programs. Featuring animal ID and classification, sandy beach ecology, watershed ecology and sharing our shore—humans and habitat.

Are you a Title I school? Through the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, we will offer a limited number of Discovering Estuaries (formerly "Shark Mobile") programs to Title I schools, free of charge. There is no funding assistance for other programs at this time.

The Interactive Sealife Outreach program is offered by the City of Newport Beach, California Fish and Wildlife and the Newport Bay Conservancy


Corona del Mar Tidepools (Big Corona and Little Corona)

We offer two types of field trip programs for students.  One is an exploration of the sandy beaches, jetties, and Pirates Cove for the little ones and the other is an interactive lesson and tour to Little Corona Tidepools.


Special Events and Outreach

Take a tour through our traveling aquarium at one of your events and learn all about local species that live in your backyard!


Volunteering and Other Opportunites

We offer a variety of volunteer, docent, and monitor opportunities at the CdM Tidepools, Back Bay Science Center and the Balboa Peninsula.  If you are interested in being an advocate for your local environment, JOIN US!  We also have a variety of other programs for younger people and college age students through our Citizen Science Program and Internship Program.
